"Don't tell me you just sit in your room and play guitar alone!"
Someone posted that comment on my YouTube page http://youtu.be/aDgsjRfdfbc a while back and it kind of stung....because it's true. I'm a closet blues-man, hacking away in my own woodshed. I have a bunch of guitars hanging on the wall and I pick one up every now and again and improvise a few licks. I used to write and record music at least every week, but somehow I got lost, got too busy, and let other things get in the way. I didn't lose the passion, just fell asleep. So reading this comment woke me up, brought me back to the present, and made me realize that I NEED to share my music and the passion and philosophy that drives it.....
So I decided to set up a website http://www.sweetpotatoslim.com to share my guitar philosophy and to help others learn how to be AUTHENTIC musicians.
What is an AUTHENTIC musician? It's not about being the best, playing the fastest, or even getting noticed. It's about sharing a feeling, an idea, an emotion that you can't express through words. Tough to define, but as such things have been described, you know it when you hear and see it.
The path to authenticity, I believe, comes through one's own journey, or "grail quest" so to speak. I'll describe further in future posts. Just wanted to let the world know that I've woken up today.....

I identify a lot with his thinking. I am Brazilian, land sanba. For some reason, it's the blues that catches my attention. Improvisation, live in the present (Zen), defining what is an authentic musician, it all makes perfect sense to me. I'll see your post to learn from them. Congratulations.
